Durga, means who wards off difficulties from the path of her devotees. Durga Sapthashathi is a composition of Saptha (Seven) Shathi (Hundred) - 700 Slokas. Durga Saptshati is a text describing the victory of Goddess Durga over Demon Mahishasura. It finds its space in Markandeya Purana which is one of the puranas and was written in around 400-500CE.

Recitation of Saptha Shati on the auspicous Navaratre gives the person the logical, calculative, presence of mind and health related strengths. It gives courage and motivates the person. As we chant it we come to understand the in depth meaning of the legends in the Saptha Shathi and become fearless. Fearlessness brings a person, ability to perform tasks effectively.
