Ayurvedic Remedies for Glossitis

Causes of Glossitis According to Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Remedies for Glossitis

Glossitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the tongue, often leading to swelling, redness, burning, pain, or even a change in the texture of the tongue. In Ayurveda, this condition is known as Jihva Shotha or Jihva Daha, associated with imbalances in Pitta and Rakta (blood).

Ayurveda offers time-tested, holistic remedies for glossitis that work by balancing the body's doshas, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing through herbs, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes.

What is Glossitis?

Glossitis is an irritation or inflammation of the tongue, where the surface may appear smooth, swollen, red, or painful. It may occur suddenly (acute) or persist over time (chronic). It can make talking, chewing, or swallowing uncomfortable.

Causes of Glossitis According to Ayurveda

From an Ayurvedic perspective, glossitis is primarily a Pitta dosha imbalance, which causes excess heat and inflammation in the body. Common causes include:
Excessive intake of spicy or hot foods
Digestive issues or Agnimandya (low digestive fire)
Nutritional deficiencies (especially B-vitamins)
Allergic reactions or infections
Poor oral hygiene or use of chemical-based products
Chronic stress
