Leucoderma and Its Ayurvedic Remedies

Causes of Leucoderma as per Ayurveda

Leucoderma, also known as Shwitra or Kilasa in Ayurveda, is a skin disorder characterized by white patches caused by the loss of melanin pigment. While modern medicine describes it as vitiligo, Ayurveda considers it a result of dosha imbalance, particularly of Pitta and Vata, leading to disturbances in skin pigmentation.

The condition is not contagious but can have psychological and social impacts on patients due to visible changes in appearance.

Causes of Leucoderma as per Ayurveda

According to Ayurvedic texts, leucoderma may develop due to:
Imbalance of Pitta dosha affecting skin pigmentation.
Consumption of incompatible foods (Viruddha Aahar) like milk with fish or sour fruits.
Indigestion and accumulation of toxins (Ama) in the body.
Excessive exposure to the sun and heat.
Stress and hormonal imbalances.
Genetic predisposition.

Ayurvedic Symptoms of Leucoderma

Appearance of white or pale patches on the skin.
Gradual increase in size of the patches.
Loss of skin sensation in affected areas in some cases.
Dryness and thinning of the skin in certain spots.
