Planetary Combinations for Boy or Girl

Predicting the sex of a child in horoscope has been a subject of interest in Vedic astrology for centuries. While modern laws and ethics discourage gender determination for societal reasons, astrology traditionally offered methods to understand the cosmic influences that could indicate whether the native may have a boy or girl child. These predictions are made by studying the planetary positions, houses, nakshatras, and the strength of benefic and malefic influences in the birth chart.

Planetary Combinations for Boy or Girl

For a Boy Child:

Strong influence of Sun, Jupiter, or Mars on the 5th house or its lord.
Jupiter placed in the 5th house or aspecting it.
Benefic male planets in odd signs in the Saptamsha chart.

For a Girl Child:

Moon or Venus influencing the 5th house or its lord.
Venus placed in the 5th house or in conjunction with its lord.
Female planets in even signs in the Saptamsha chart.

The nakshatras also play an important role. Certain constellations are more inclined toward producing male children, while others favor female births.

Houses and Signs Influencing Child’s Sex

5th House: Primary indicator of children.
9th House: Shows the fortune related to children and grandchildren.
1st House: Health and vitality of the native, which can affect childbearing.

Signs are also classified as male (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) and female (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces), influencing the prediction when placed in key positions related to progeny.

1) Lord of 5th in an Odd Sign gives more sons, in even sign-more daughters. Female planets in 5th give more daughters, male planets-more Sons.

2) Male issues are indicated by:

(a) The 5th house falling in an odd sign and odd navamsa;

(b) A strong male planet owning the 5th house placed in an odd navamsa;

(c) A strong Jupiter placed in an odd sign and navamsa;

(d) The 5th house getting aspects and associations of the 5th lord, friendly planets or of benefics

(e) the position of the lords of the ascendant and the 5th house.

3) Female issues are shown by an even 5th house, a weak female 5th lord placed in an even isign and even navamsa and Jupiter in even signs. The 5th house in a female sign where the vargas of Venus and Moon exceed those of other planets, or when the 5th house falls in a sign of Venus or Moon with or getting their aspect. There should not be any Saturnian or Martian connections in this case.

4) (i) 5th lord in female rasi, Female navamsa, female star....many daughters, (ii) 5th lord in male rasi, Male navamsa, male star many sons.

5) If lord of 5th is masculine, joins masculine sign, combines in a masculine navamsa...first¬born child will be male.
