Sheis one of the prime goddesses for Hindus; there are many temples dedicated to various forms in India. She is worshipped in different forms and incarnations all over the country. Mainly, she is known as the goddess of wealth, people worship her for the wealth and prosperity.

Lakshmi temples are among the prominent ones in India. Specially in North and West India, it is believed that goddess visits the houses of devotees on the 3rd day of Diwali festival. Hence, the houses are cleaned, lamps are lit in front of the houses to invite her.
Lakshmi Narayan Temple Delhi
1. Lakshmi Narayan Temple (also called Birla Mandir), in Delhi was built by the entrepreneur B.R Birla and Vijay Tyagi in 1939. It is one of the oldest and popular temples in delhi. The temple is dedicated to Goddess and Vishnu. An interesting fact is that, Birla Mandir was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi and today it one the prominent tourist attractions in Delhi. The temple is located on the Mandir Marg , near C.P. and Gole Market.

Timings: 4:30am to 1:30pm & 2.30pm to 9.00pm. (best to visit during morning and evening aarti)

Entry: Free

A large number of devotees visit this temple during Diwali festival and Krishna Janmastami. The temple also has small shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, a Buddhist shrine and Devi Durga.

2. Sripuram Golden TempleSripuram Golden Temple

Vellore Sripuram Golden Temple is located in Vellore of Tamil Nadu and is the largest golden temple. It is dedicated to goddess and is a unique temple in India; the shrine and the temple tower is coated in gold foil. The temple has a star shaped path representing Shri Chakra (wheel) and is situated in a small hill called Malaikodi.

Sripuram is also one of the biggest Maa temples in India. Golden temple has complicated statues, created by hundreds of expert gold decorators; those have specialization in temple decoration. the exterior part of gold temple is covered with gold plates and sheets, with made considered to have total cost of about 300 crore ( 65 million US $). The total gold was used in this temple is around 1,500 kilograms which is the biggest amount even in entire world.

3. Mahalakshmi Temple KohlapurMahalakshmi Temple, Kolhapur

It is one of the most renowned Shakti Peeth of Goddess in India, Kolhapur is known for the Mahalakshmi temple in Maharashtra. This Shakti peetha is a famous pilgrim site for Hindus. It is believed that Lord Vishnu is very fond of this region as this the place of his wife .

Over the sanctum sanctorum rises a superstructure. It has an upper temple that houses an icon of Ganapati with a decorated stone frame behind the idol sporting a Kirtimukh in the centre. In front of the Ganapati Idol is a rectangular Shivalinga better known as Matulinga (Shivalinga atop the Goddess idol) and outside this chamber lies a bull, vehicle of Lord Shiva. A staircase to the left of Goddess shrine leads to this storey of the temple.

People believe both Vishnu and she stay and bless this region. Kolhapur temple was built by Chalukyas of Karnataka and today it is one of the famous temples in India.

4. Ashtlakshmi TempleAshtalakshmi Temple, Chennai

In Ashtalakshmi Temple all the 8 forms of goddess is worshipped; there are shrines dedicated to each form of maa in the temple complex. Ashtalakshmi Kovil is located near the Elliot's beach in Chennai.

Beginning from the main deities of Maa and her Vishnu, one has to go around the shrines of the goddesses of wealth, offspring, success, prosperity, courage, food, knowledge and bravery.

The temple is constructed with Ashtanga Vimana in the tower in the Omkara design. The shadow of the tower does not fall on the ground. The design is similar to the Big Temple in Thanjavur.

The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

5. Lakshmi Devi Temple, Hassan lakshmidevi temple hassan

Lakshmi Devi Temple in Doddagaddavalli belongs to the period of Hoysalas in Karnataka. Lakshmi Devi Temple is one of the earliest temple architectures of Hoysala style.There is a large pond adjacent to the Devi temple. There are granite steps leading to this beautiful temple. The main shrine of Devi is situated inside the compound.

There are smaller shrines which surround the main deity. The temple complex also houses many other Hindu gods and goddesses. A visit to this temple in Hassan is a must for its ancient and intricate architecture.

The temple is said to be built in the year 1114 A.D, by Kallahana Rahutha(from Kolhapur, Maharastra), a wealthy merchant in Hoysala court. The place was called Abhinava Kolhapura, connecting it with Kolhapur.

6. Mahalakshmi Temple, Mumbai Mahalakshmi temple mumbai

Mahalakshmi Temple is a temple dedicated to goddess . It is one of the popular temples in Mumbai.

This temple has an interesting story relating to the building of Hornby Vellard (a bridge connecting all the islands of Mumbai). After the wall of Hornby Vellard collapsed twice, the engineer dreamed of goddess . Surprisingly, a statue of the goddess was found upon searching in the area. Hence, the statue was installed and a temple was built. It is only later that the Hornby Vellard project was completed.
